Is Queen Latifah Admitting that She’s Gay?

Rumors have long been flying about Queen Latifah’s sexuality. Now, people are wondering if she is allowing the role she played as a gay reporter in a recent episode of Single Ladies to voice what she has been keeping under wraps for years. Latifah’s character, Sharon Love, admits that when she was in college she slept with her best female friend.

The episode plot does not stop there. Love says, “It turns out being gay is fabulous. My Twitter is all atwitter. I have six new Facebook fan pages. And for every sponsor that’s fallen out, I’ve gotten two more. Who knew? Being gay is the new black.” Latifah’s character intially thought that her live admission would ruin her career, but it made it blossom instead.

Given that Latifah is the executive producer of Single Ladies and the fact that she has kept silent about her love life and sexuality, some are speculating that the character Sharon love is a reflection of Latifah’s own life. Speaking to the Cover Girl’s private life, The Rootreports:

“Last year the Advocate, the nation’s largest gay and lesbian magazine, reported that Queen Latifah and her personal trainer, Jeanette Jenkins, had purchased a home together in the Hollywood Hills, and public records revealed that both of their names were on the deed. Speculation followed that the two were officially an item. The previous year, paparazzi photos had been published of the women in an intimate embrace while on vacation.”

Reportedly, gay-rights activists and sheer fans were waiting for Latifah to address the rumors, but she left the world in suspense. She never said a word except for this. She shared with People magazine, “My private life is my private life. Whomever I might be with, I don’t feel the need to share it. I don’t think I ever will.” On another occasion, she told the world through Essence magazine, “Everybody else can do the reading; I’ll do the living.”

Based on this information, it does not look like the public will ever be able to be sure of Queen Latifah’s sexuality. That said, for now it will remain mere speculation.
